The Rector of Maritime Academy of Nigeria, Oron, Cdre. Duja Emmanuel Effedua (Rtd.) has urged Staff of the institution to be committed in the discharge of their duties in the interest the Academy and the Maritime industry as a whole. He said this during a meeting with Staff from select departments recently.

He described the act of vital information leakage in the past as disgraceful and detrimental to the image of the Academy and appreciated the role the Interim Management Committee has played in curbing the menace.

The Rector further called for patience from staff over unpaid peculiar allowance noting that a new kind of allowance is underway to bring back smiles on the faces of Staff.

“I am a supporter of the distribution of meaningful incentives, these are not normal times but we are trying to resolve many things, a new kind of problem free allowance is coming,” he stressed.

In a related development, the Rector has assured the cadets that the IMC is doing everything possible to revive the vision and mission of the Academy.

Reiterating the Federal Government’s determination to reposition and restructure the Academy, he intimated the Cadets that the Interim Management Committee is in talks with relevant bodies and Consultants to help address the lack of opportunities for Cadets Sea Time Experience, inadequate educational facilities and also to seek technical expertise on how best to reposition the Academy for global best practices.

The CEO therefore called on the Cadets to be focused in their studies and stay away from delinquent behaviours that are inimical to their stay in the Academy, as they are the future of the maritime industry.

The highpoint of the meeting was the recognition of 7 Cadets for their demonstration of high sense of discipline by reporting to the Academy on time as was stipulated.
