MAN, Oron Rector: Management Offers Condolences

The Management of the Maritime Academy of Nigeria, Oron on behalf of the Staff, Cadets and Students of the institution paid a condolence visit to the family of their late CEO, Amb. Dr. Joshua Enun Okpo. The Team comprised of members of Management of Director’s Cadre and was led by the Substantive Registrar of the Academy, Mr. Mkpandiok A. Mkpandiok.

Addressing members of the bereaved family, the Registrar said the late Rector was a man with a good heart, intelligent, had a good sense of humour and always had the interest of every one at heart. He noted that his loyalty for his Country and the maritime industry made him unwavering at driving the developmental processes in the Academy being the only government owned maritime training institution in the country, and was determined to raise its standard, a process he died in the course of.

 “The untimely demise of our dear Rector, Amb. Dr. Joshua Okpo is very painful to us, he was full of energy and dedicated to his duty. It is really unfortunate that he had to leave us this early. The Management, Staff, Cadets and Students of Maritime Academy of Nigeria, Oron are still in great shock over this sudden and great loss” he bemoaned.

He then prayed for the peaceful repose of the soul of the departed Rector and urged the deceased family to put their hope in God and remain steadfast in God, the Author and the Finisher of our faith, for He alone can really comfort them. 

In his response the elder brother of the deceased, Engr. Manderson Okpo welcomed the team and thanked them for sympathising with the family in their moment of grief. He acknowledged the supremacy of God in every human phenomenon noting that nobody has the right to question Him concerning what happens to human beings.

Praising the team spirit that exist among the Staff of the Academy, Engr. Okpo charged the Management to build on the legacy left behind in the Academy by his late brother, Amb. Joshua Okpo and prayed for God’s infinite wisdom to be their portion in the course of piloting the affairs of the Academy to a conclusive end.

“One thing I always love about the Academy is the way you relate with people. I believe Academy is made up of people from different parts of the Country, yet you relate and communicate very freely. If this is one of the legacies my late brother has left behind, then I pray it should last forever” he said.

On her Part, the Director, School of Maritime Studies, Dr. Mrs. Arit A. Mkpandiok noted that the late Rector touched many lives during his lifetime and “carried everybody along” in the area of administration. 

Sharing the late Rector’s work relationship with members of his Management and staff, she said,  “our amiable Rector will be greatly missed by the Academy community, he was a father to all of us. It is a sad loss but since we are mere mortals we submit to the will of the Almighty God.”

The solemn event climaxed with the presentation of a Condolence Letter to the deceased family and the observation of a minute’s silence in honour of the departed Rector.
