Press Release: RECTOR’S OKPO’S LAST OUTING WITH STAFF

Recently, during Staff General meeting, the Management and Staff of the Academy poured encomiums on the Rector, Dr. Joshua Okpo, over his rare leadership style and spectacular administrative acumen.

Speaking one after the other, the Staff praised the Dr. Joshua Okpo for raising the standard of the Academy from where it was before the inception of his administration to where it is now.

They gave him thumps up for his efforts towards enhanced Staff salary, welfare package, Staff Pensionable Gazetting and the  Integrated Personel and Payroll Information System (IPPIS) which ensures that every Staff of the institution is documented for regular salary payment. They also commended him for his infrastructural development seen all over the Academy viz: renovation of Smoke Room, Hostels and Administrative Block, Construction of Staff Quarters, Internal Road Network, Bursary Block, Church, Hostels And Mosque among others within the Academy community.

Staff however expressed concern over the incessant media attacks on the person of the Rector and encouraged the Rector to forge ahead while pledging their unalloyed support and cooperation to the Rector.

The Erudite Rector in his response had thanked the staff immensely for their show of love and solidarity and promised to continue to forge ahead, noting that his mandate is to sail the Academy ship to safe landing.

Concerning the 2 months Salary arrears owed Staff, he explained that it was because of a shortfall in the 2015 salary budget which according to him arose from the current employment status of the Academy. Explaining further he said when he arrived Academy in July 2011, the Academy’s wage bill was N 10m monthly but it now stands at about N 70m. He noted that Management was working assiduously with the Federal Ministries of Transport and Finance to ensure that outstanding salary arrears would be paid before 2015 ends.

He noted that by increasing the Management size from a paltry number of not less than 10 persons to 39 persons, he intended to run an all-inclusive administration where decisions would be taken based on the overall interests of the majority.

Dr. Okpo who spoke passionately emphasised on the need for staff to  concentrate on their work, not minding cheap blackmailers whose aim is to pull down the Academy, noting that they need to remain focused and united always.

On the recent and baseless N 13 or N 18 bn probe allegations by some quacks in the journalism profession, the Academy’s helmsman reiterated that the when the Honourable Minister directed for the auditing of MAN’s accounts and projects  based on the 5% releases by NIMASA, he was explicit in his statements and quoted him thus; “ I am not investigating the Rector, Joshua Okpo, I am not investigating the Academy.” he then asserted in clear terms, “Don’t allow anybody to cajole you to lose faith in your able Management”, he stressed  “the issue at stake is that you must continue to work together as a team towards the development of the Academy”.

He further said that the Honourable Minister has promised to address issues relating from non-remittances of the allocated 5% to the Academy, non-payment of Academy’s Dollar equivalent of that Statutory Allocation and to determine what actually constitutes 5% statutory allocation to the Academy.

The Rector also informed staff of the re-commencement of the Monthly Staff Road Walk by January, 2016.
