Press Release: Rector Commends Cadet Ngremeh’s Leadership Style

The Rector, Maritime Academy of Nigeria, Oron, Ambassador Dr. Joshua Okpo has expressed confidence in the leadership style of the Academy’s First FemaleChiefCadet Captain (CCC), Cadet Peace Ngremeh. The Rector who made this known during the 2015 Cadets Week said he was proud of the CCC for proving the Management right over her selection as head over the Cadets of the the Academy for the 2014/2015 Academic Session.

Amb. Dr. Okpo praised the Cadets for their ingenuity, especially in providing a directional map of the Academy at the Main Gate to aid first time visitors to the Academy locate their way round the institution noted that “the agreement by the 3 schools to put up a project that i am privileged to unveil shows their determination to follow the path of professionalism, which is the essence of their coming to the Academy”. The Academy’s Directional Map is well-positioned to serve as guide to guests coming into the institution.

He assured the Cadets of the Management’s determination to ensure that the vision for which the Institution was established is fully realised. The Rector reiterated the fact that they are being trained for both the national and global maritime market and charged them to study very well so they would be able to match their counterparts anywhere in the world.

Speaking convincingly on the competence of the present Cadet Executive he stated categorically that the Academy, in line with the specifications of International Maritime Organisation (IMO) will be streamlined to produce 3 layers of manpower namely: Lower Level Manpower (Short Courses), Middle Level Manpower (ND and HND)  and Higher Level  Manpower (Degree).

“This is the model we are going to adopt, anything outside the specifications of IMO will be contravening these recommendations or standards and will bring sanctions leading to the invalidation of Certificates awarded here,” he added.

In her response, the CCC, Cadet Peace Ngremeh thanked the Rector and Management for the confidence reposed in her and her entire Executive by entrusting the cadets’ leadership to them.

She further recognised God as her source of wisdom, strength and direction and further promised on behalf of other executive members, not to fail in delivering their on Terms of Office.

Appreciating glowingly the supportive role of the Rector, she highlighted his giant strides as the thrust of her leadership.

The much-loaded weeklong event, which had “Exploring the Potentials of MAN-Oron Cadets Today” as the theme, featured a colourful Carnival by the Cadets; Seafarers Competition; Symposium; Sanitation (Cleaning of Major Streets in the Oron Township); Football Competition; Dinner/ Award Night and a Thanksgiving Service.

The Gala Night also saw the crowning of 2015 Mr. and Miss MAN, Oron, through a keen but affable contest and the presentation of different awards to deserving Cadets. Top among them was the Academic Excellence Award, which went to Cadets Peace Ngremeh (CCC) and Okon E. Ime her male counterpart with CGPA of 3.92 and 3.72 respectively.

The highpoint of the event was the conferment of the Humanitarian of the Year Award on the Rector by the Cadets Executive on behalf of all the Cadets, in recognition of his philanthropic gestures within and outside the Academy.
