I AM IMPRESSED¬ WITH YOUR MANAGEMENT TEAM - NAVAL COMMANDING OFFICER COMMENDS RECTOR

 

The commanding officer of the Naval Forward Operating Base, Ibaka, Capt. (NN) SS Akwu has commended the Management of the Maritime Academy of Nigeria, Oron for the infrastructural development in the Academy. Capt. Akwu made this commendation during a working visit to the Academy on Tuesday, January 27, 2015.
Capt. Akwu who arrived the Academy at exactly 15:00 hours immediately proceeded to inspect a Guard of Honour mounted by the cadets of the Institute.
Capt. Akwu thereafter proceeded on facility tour of projects in the Academy. The Commanding Officer who was led on the Facility tour by the Head, Public Relations of the Institution, Mr. Siddi Mkpandiok, and the DRUC, Lt. (NN) O R Nosiru inspected the Jetty, the Simulators, the Sports Complex, the Marine Engineering Workshop, the Language Laboratory in the ICT Centre, the enlarged and refurbished Cadets Refectory, as well as the new Phase 3 site where construction works are on- going. During his meeting with the Management team in the Academy’s Conference room, the Commanding officer commended the Rector and his Management team for what he described as ‘positive revolution’ in the Academy. Capt. Akwu who recalled with nostalgia his stay in the Academy fourteen years ago as the DRUC expressed surprise at the high standard facilities the Joshua Okpo led Management team has provided in the Academy.
“I lack words to describe how impressed I am with the Management for the World Class facilities you have provided in the Academy. With these facilities, especially the Simulators, the Maritime Academy of Nigeria, Oron Cadets won’t have any excuse for poor performance when they finally get on-board ships or vessels.”
He assured the Management that his command will do whatever is within their capacity to assist the Academy achieve greater heights.
Responding on behalf of the Management staff, the Rector, Amb. Joshua Okpo expressed gratitude to the officer for remembering the Academy and visiting at the right time on his resumption as commanding officer. He noted that the visit was an indication of the cordial relationship that exists between the Academy and the Nigeria Navy and requested that the spirit of camaraderie should be sustained.
He assured the officer that the Management will not lose focus in its quest to steer the Academy’s ship to international reckoning.
“I want to assure you that the Management will continue to work assiduously to achieve the Academy’s objectives, the most important being to produce quality seafarers that will meet international standards and place Nigeria permanently on the International Shipping map”
He informed the officer that the achievements recorded in the Academy during his tenure would not have been possible without the cooperation of the Management staff who have given him their shoulders to lean upon.
He appealed to the Navy to extend their surveillance to the Academy’s territorial waters in order to protect the Academy’s facilities at the Jetty from sea pirates.
