The Rector, Maritime Academy of Nigeria, Oron, Ambassador Joshua Okpo on Thursday called on the members of the Academy community and Nigerians as a whole to ensure they cast their votes in the forthcoming elections.  The Rector who said this during the March edition of the Staff Monthly Solemn Assembly asserted that it is obligatory of every citizen to take active part in the forthcoming elections, and to do so by orderly and peaceful conduct.

The Rector also urged a non-violent election and asked the people to pray fervently for peace the Country in the wake of the elections and even beyond, saying “We have come here to pray for God to bless Nigeria, for we have no other Country we can call our own. This Country will see peace and will remain united as one indivisible entity fulfilling the divine plan of God.”

The Global Peace Ambassador who appreciated the man of God and Staff alike for always heeding the call to congregate every month to pray to God to heal the Academy, the host community and the Nation testified that truly the prayers have restored peace in Academy’s host community.

Reiterating the benefits of the monthly prayer meetings the astute Administrator emphasised the need for the people not to relent in prayers. “We are on a journey of rebuilding and repositioning the Academy, the journey is turbulent but by the grace of God we will get there” he said.

Speaking on the theme “What Doest Thou Here” Rev. Mike Ubin admonished the congregation to be efficient always in contributing their quotas to the development of the institution and the Country in general in their various duty posts and places of assignments.

Rev. Ubin expounded flamingly on the nature of God in answering those who fervently call on him. Using the biblical story of Elijah and the prophets of Baal as an example he noted that what people do with their presence on earth is the real essence of their creation.

He stressed that the greatest thing any man could do for him or herself is to discover God’s plan for his or her life adding that the reason Jesus came was to help us discover God and his plan for mankind, and that man’s purpose on earth was achievable when that was attained.

The man of God called on all present to recognise the sacrifice Jesus made for mankind and allow that serve as a guide in their daily duties to the institution and the Nation. He added that every  good idea in life is first conceived in the heart before being watered to fruition. Don’t look at the Academy as a hiding or money making place, Christianity is living the life when no man’s eye is watching you as if you were being permanently watched” he stressed.

Earlier, the event started with beautiful renditions and intercessory prayer session led by the Cadets’ Choir and Pastor R. Izuka, which featured powerful prayer points for the development of the Academy and continued sustenance of peace and progress in the Nation.
