Specialised Seamen Training Centre

PHILOSOPHY
The specialized Seamen Training Centre was established to provide high level of training for ratings and officers of the Merchant Navy, in accordance with the provisions of relevant International Maritime Organization (IMO), International Labour Organization (ILO) Conventions, the Marine Industrial Services Consultative Organization (MISCO), the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) and the Nigeria Merchant Shipping Act 1962 and its various subsidiary legislations to satisfy the relevant provisions of the STCW Convention as amended.

MISSION STATEMENT
The Mission of the Centre is to upgrade, train, and produce competent Seafarers that meets the international competency standard.

VISION STATEMENT
To train world class personnel for Maritime and Allied industries.

BRIEF HISTORY
The Specialized Seamen Training Centre (SSTC) was established in April 1999 under the Administration of Engr. Akinsoji with 95 students. In October 2000, the first HOD Capt. O.J. Oyedekun (Late) was posted to the Centre.
Recently 3 (three) more departments, that is, Department of Oil and Gas, Department of Upgrading and Specialized Seamen Courses were created.

STAFFING
The specialized seamen training centre is headed by a director, supported by three Head of
Departments and many ex-seafarers, master mariners and other professionals.
